CHEF’S TROLLEY

By Uncategorized

This bespoke commission celebrates the 21st birthday of a chef whose other passion is geology, hence the hand-carved ammonite handle. This unique piece is made from hard rock maple with an oiled finish, topped with black pearl granite. The wealth of features including the end grain maple chopping board, plus slide out shelf/tray, are contained in the small footprint of this wheeled delight.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS……

By Uncategorized

This recently completed special commission soon became the talk of the neighbourhood.  Superb selections of English burr oak were combined and crafted with great skill and care by our award-winning team.  The pure natural finish was achieved through scores of hours hand-sanding and multiple applications of ‘Osmo’ oil.  Each of the pair of hand-carved acorns turn, one to reveal the keyhole, the other  reveals Stewart Linford’s enamel maker’s badge.  Symmetry is the hall mark of professional woodwork, therefore the owner’s mail goes into a separate post box.  A letterbox would have created the wrong impression.

Premium Selected Stock

This classic Fan back dining suite boasts a wealth of features designed during the ‘golden age’ of English cabinet making.  The greatest eighteenth century cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale himself, inspired these models.  This ‘long set’ of eight side chairs plus two arms was created by our Master Craftsmen in English burr and figured oak.  The extending twin-pedestal table also made in our High Wycombe workshops is finished using a 12-stage polishing process that enhances the grain and figure of each piece and provides that ‘must-touch’, hard wearing surface.  This suite is available now at an unbeatable price, call 01494 537957 for further information. Many other classic and contemporary pieces available.

Compact Contemporary Chairs

Our clients required two pairs of comfortable armchairs, both light in weight and colour,  for their recent breakfast room makeover.  As both bespoke Windsor and upholstered easy chairs are now made at St. Georges Works the commission is well suited to our skilled Crafts people.

English ash was chosen for the frames as it is tough and strong with the advantage of being a light clean hardwood. The pair of Windsor elbow chairs are new designs fitted with hairpin back bows, fine proportions yet very strong.

The elegant Goldophin easy chairs are supremely comfortable yet occupy a small footprint,  with an upright back and compact neatly upholstered arms.   The fabric chosen from our extensive array of pattern books was a fine weave Jane Churchill Karla beige.   You can see further examples of this and other superb models on: www.greengate.co.uk

Lengthening Easter Entertaining

By Uncategorized

With delivery scheduled for the week before Easter, this bespoke dining table was created to complement our client’s contemporary living space, on the edge of the City of London. The design is simplicity itself, a pair of welded steel legs supporting a long centre beam uniting three cross rails, secured to the highly figured solid English elm top, 132″ x 42″ x 1 1/2″ thick.   The top boards  were carefully chosen, cut and matched from an exceptionally rare  log of stunning English elm.

The Showroom Opening Party

By Uncategorized

The mid March showroom opening party was a great success where the champagne flowed and every canape consumed.    Approximately 120 guests experienced the many fine pieces of cabinet and upholstered furniture displayed.   Parties were treated to a comprehensive factory tour by the Directors and Designers of both Greengate and Luxury in Wood.

Factory tours start from where the rolls of fabric enter the production process.   Every inch of material is quality checked and accurately measured before proceeding to cutting, sewing and ultimately covering expertly upholstered chairs and sofas.  Guests were fascinated to experience the ‘leather mine’ where countless hides are carefully stored away from direct sunlight.2014-03-13 19.40.37

The tour took in the furthest reaches of the wood mill where a fine array of timbers are delivered and marked out using new and historic templates.   Chair, cabinet and table making areas where explored followed by polishing and despatch.  The evening was rounded off in the showrooms with the customary prize drawer winners receiving their rewards.  Bidding fond farewells then heading home with renewed enthusiasm to enhance their homes with fine English craftsmanship.
